MONSOON ARCHITECTURE FESTIVAL 2017

A GRAND CULMINATION

The Monsoon Architecture Festival 2017 (MAF), organised by the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) – Cochin Centre on 21st and 22nd April 2017 at Kochi, proved to be an ideal finale and culmination to the Living Monsoon, a program that defined the theme of the tenure of the IIA Cochin Centre 2015–17. In IIA’s history, this was the first time that a tenure was conceptualised on a theme and this festival further added to the celebrations of the silver anniversary of the IIA Cochin Centre and to the centenary year of IIA. The theme of Living Monsoon was chosen to pay a tribute to the architecture and culture that have responded to regions which fall under high precipitation and bio diversity in the tropical zone. During the past two years, the program was run as a curated series of six design talks featuring 12 international architects and artists (from Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Singapore, Thailand and India) acclaimed for their work in the tropical monsoon regions. Besides which, workshops, exhibitions, movie projections and technical events also formed a part of the program.
